Killing Information and Opposition

cn | 07 January, 2007 20:33

In a somewhat amateur move, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has refused to renew the license for the second largest TV station in the country which has been quite critical of the Chavez administration and supported his opposition.

Now, I'm glad that the press (in this case, the BBC) is at least covering this issue, though it is certainly relegated to second-tier news but the issue is that too many people believe that stuff like this isn't going on in the West. The problem is that those in power are not so obvious and combative as Chavez, but use more subtle means to manipulate and feed false data to the citizens of their country, slowly and quietly, until it is too late.
